Maiden Health Outreach at Jacobu, Ashanti Region

Face to face interactions and services to individuals or family concerning activities that promote health in Jacobu the Amansie Central District, Ghana.

Jacobu is a town near Ashanti Bekwai and is the capital town of Amansie Central, a district in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Jacobu and its neighbouring towns form the Odotobri paramountcy. On 2oth March 2018, facilitators from HI Foundation visited at least fifteen households at Krofrom (Jacobu environs, Amansie Central), Ashanti Region to influence healthy lifestyle. Households raised worries over increased bills at the hospital as a major cause of poor health-seeking behavior. They were encouraged to visit the local hospital and seek assistance from facilitators. Dieting habit as a major risk factor for Diabetes and Hypertension was of notable mention. They advised families to as much as possible, desist from consuming 'unhealthy' meals prepared away from home as they have been associated with decreased nutritional quality and weight gain. Facilitators encouraged mothers to oversee the meals of their children since the young ones are increasingly falling victims of these chronic diseases.

Families' concerns were addressed; they were encouraged to nurture conditions and environments that promote health and prevent diseases.
