Mass Health Screening for Church of Pentecost.

HI joins COPHNET to organize health screening for members of the Church of Pentecost, Dormaa East District.

As part of the HI Foundation Agenda of creating awareness for cardiovascular diseases, The Director and staff who are also members of the Church of Pentecost together with the Church of Pentecost Health Network (COPHNET) organized a mass Health Screening exercises for members of the Church of Pentecost in the Dormaa East District.

The health care team present included a Biomedical Scientist, Professional nurses, and laboratory personnel, Public health nurses and other officers drawn from the two districts according to the church structures.

In the perspective of the Church of Pentecost’s Administration, The Dormaa East District comprises of two Districts; the wamfie District and the Wamanafo District. In all, there were 17,236 congregants at the convention grounds.

Among some of the activities planned by the team were Hepatitis B Screening and Vaccination, Blood Pressure checking, Blood Sugar Monitoring and Blood grouping and Genotypic Test. Additionally, the team also ensured a consistent first aid for congregants throughout the event.

In all, 56 people were screened for Hepatitis B of which 6 People who tested positive were referred to the Dormaa East District Hospital at Wamfie. Ten of the participants who tested negative or unreactive to the test were taking through education about the importance of vaccination and need to be vaccinated.

Again, of the 67 people who had their blood pressure checked; 50 of them qualified as hypertensive with Blood pressure of above 140/90mm/Hg. Significantly, 7 of them had malignant Hypertension with recording above 190/100mm/Hg. As part of the protocol for managing hypertension, these people were referred to the Dormaa East District Hospital for further monitoring and management.

Furthermore, 25 people had their random blood sugar checked; out of which 6 recorded above 10.0 mm/L and were also referred to the hospital for further management. Fifteen congregants turned up for their blood grouping to be checked. Various forms of health education were provided including the risk factors to developing Hypertension and Diabetes as well as the causes and prevention of Hepatitis B.

Additionally, about 53 of the congregants received various forms of first aid from headache to dizziness, abdominal pains, fatigue etc. One of the participants was also referred on complaints sudden dizziness and syncope. Cumulatively, 201 congregants accessed the services of the healthcare team .
